I read labels too - but only after I've already bought them and the product happens to be sitting on the table or on the kitchen counter and I'm waiting for the food to get cooked. Kind of haphazard I admit, but my family has been buying the same trusted brands (e.g. my mom's favorite) over and over again.

Very true. I have to admit I haven't had to get into their pants yet, but it would be an interesting writing challenge! ;) Thanks for stopping by!

I love how you describe it as a wink--that's perfect! I think when businesses stop taking themselves too seriously, it really helps establish a sense of trust between them and the customer.

Couldn't agree with you more. I'm constantly asking clients to think in terms of "what makes my customer tick?" as opposed to "what age, sex, income bracket, et al" do they fall into. You've got understand what motivates your customer to get out of bed in the morning. Get into their head, heart (and possibly even their pants!) to really get who they are as a person. Only then can you have a meaningful convo (via your copy) about how you can solve their challenges or fulfill their deepest desires.

Ha! That marketing copy you found really WAS brilliant. I like how you highlighted the conversational tone. It's a little wink across time: "Hey, I know this is business-related and I believe in this product/service, but you're a person with other priorities, so let's just get through this together, huh?"

I'm all about ingredients, too. But if a product's packaging copy happens to catch my eye, it's usually because it feels like a real person talking. It's like that saying "easy reading is hard writing." If the person doesn't feel like they're reading because they're genuinely interested, then that's a great thing.

Glad to hear it inspired an offshoot post! Looking forward to reading it.

“Does anyone really read this stuff?"

If I might raise a timid hand... :). I seek it out, too. I'm always disappointed if I don't see something to read on the cereal box, or the OJ carton. I'm not being sarcastic, either. But the fact is, that's only _after_ I've bought whatever it is. When I'm trying to decide which new lotion to try, I look at the ingredients and sniff it. Anything else I read is a customer review. So make it good, and make it relevant to those concerns.

That said, I think I have an offshoot blog post coming on. Thanks for these points, Natalia, and lookout for a trackback!
